Split pea Allyich’a – Ater Kikk Allyich’a

Ingredients: Split peas, dried (570g), onions, finely chopped (200g), Garlic, mashed (20g), Ginger, mashed (20g), green pepper, chopped (20g), oil (160g), salt (25g), Garlic and ginger powder (3g), Turmeric powder (3g), Mekelesha (3g) water (3and half liters)

Preparation

Put the cleaned and rinsed peas in 2 liters of water in a large saucepan, bring to boil and cook until soft – about 1 hour.

Put the remaining 1 and half lters of water on to boil.

Cook the onion over a low heat until golden brown, stirring constantly and adding a little of the boiling water as needed to prevent sticking.

Add the oil and cook for 5-10 minutes longer, stirring occasionally.

Add the peas and he liquid in which they were cooked, bring to boil.

Stir in the garlic, salt, garlic and ginger powder, turmeric, mekelesha and the remaining water, Bring to boil and then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes.

Remove the seeds from the green peppers and cut ethem into large pieces, Add to the allyicha’a and remove from wheat.

Note: The split peas may be smashed before being added to the onion mixture.
